HOME AND AWAY

September 6th, 2011

Can you guess whose arm that is on the cover of the Hawaii Film & Video magazine? It’s our very talented Ruben Carrillo, President of Liquid Planet Studios. Ruben had the privilege of working with Leroy Jenkins, owner of Production Partners, on the set of Australia’s soap opera, Home and Away. The four days production took place in March at the Westin Moana Surfrider hotel on Waikiki Beach. Although it was a challenge to film with crowded locations and hotel restrictions, the crew pushed through bringing all aspects of Hawaii into the film. The production crew consisted of Australia’s director of photography, a script supervisor, director and a unit production manager, the rest of the crew support were local.

The New Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Commercial

June 8th, 2011

We just wrapped filming the new Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut commercial. It was two slam-packed days of shooting. We even convinced the crew and talent to hike all the up and all the way down Koko Head (with all of our equipment too!) ;) We definitely slept well that night!

This commercial was shot on three different HD cameras: The RED, Canon 5D and the Go Pro.

The final product is in editing, but we want to give you guys a peek of what and WHO to look for in the upcoming commercial. Thank you again to all of the talent and crew for their love and support of Mauna Loa!

Hapa Closes Out A Hawaii Five-O Episode

April 26th, 2011

We thought we’d blog about one of our favorite musical duo’s, Hapa.

Hapa, was formed on Maui in 1983. In the scene of Hawaii Five-O, Cha Thompson introduces Hapa as themselves. That episode had approximately 17 million viewers.

According to the New York Times, Hapa is “the most successful Hawaiian Music group in recent history”.

Find the story on Hapa in the Star Advertiser, or visit them on their Facebook.

Congrats to Hapa for their appearance on Hawaii Five-O and for creating such great music. In case you missed the April 11th episode, or if you want to see it again, visit CBS.

X-1 World Events & JN Chevrolet Put On “Champions III”

March 23rd, 2011

This year’s X-1 Champions III at the Blaisdell Arena, had fights lined up worth watching all the blood and KO’s for. Not only was the main event with Niko Vitale vs. Dylan Clay exciting, all ten fights prior to the main event had KO’s, submissions and rounds worth talking about in the weeks to come. With the last fight having the crowd pumped and ready, the beefed up Clay and defending champ Vitale entered the cage ready to fight. Within the first round, Vitale found a hole perfect for an upper-cut and went for it, knocking Clay to the floor immediately. Vitale won by KO.

Battling for the 155lb. World Title were Harris Sarmiento from Kaneohe and Max Holloway from Makaha. This fight went all five rounds with the decision going to the judges. In the end, Max Holloway was announced the new 155lb. X-1 World Champion, at only 19 years old.

Ricky Wallace fought Eben Kaneshiro for the 145lb. State title. With Kaneshiro almost giving Wallace a KO with an unexpected throw to the head in the second round, Wallace pulled through and beat Kaneshiro.

Unfortunately, Russel Doane was injured in a car accident prior to the fight and was unable to compete leaving Van Oscar Penovaroff without an opponent. However, X-1 was able to find someone in the spur of the moment. Thomas “Tom Tom” Matias, stepped up to plate to fight Van Oscar last minute. “Tom Tom” Matias is a well-known kick boxer, having won multiple championships. With the opportunity to compete in his first professional fight, he stepped up to Van Oscar. Due to Van Oscar’s experience, he was able to defeat Matias by submission.

Collin Mansanas was defeated by Molokai’s Sale Sproat for the 185lb State Title. Sproat brought a crowd of 300 people to the Blaisdell from Molokai to cheer him on and it paid off. This Molokai cowboy gave the crowd an exciting fight to watch.

For the 145lb. State Title, Dustin Kimura fought Kurrent Cockett. Dustin won by KO.

Zane Kamaka vs. Jordan Kekino for the 170lb. State Title was suppose to be the fight of the night. However, Kamaka defeated Kekino in the first round.

The only woman’s fight of the night went to Raquel Paaluhi vs. Nicole Johnson. The Waianae fighter defeated Johnson, from Reno, Nevada.

Lolohea Mahe defeated Puka Bell for the HW State Title.

Steven Saito and Will Shutt fought for the 155lb. X-1 State Title. With a split decision, the judges named Shutt the winner.

The HW X-1 Amateur Title went to Paea Paogo vs. Kala Koa.

For more information on the Champions III fight, visit X-1 World Events, and The Star Advertiser.
